The Venerable Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament and Saint Giulia Patron of Livorno, was founded in 1300. Its aim is to liturgically honour the Blessed Sacrament of Eucharist and to publically venerate the Saint Patron.

Among the privileges conceded to the Confraternity are:

- representatives have the priority over the other Catholic Institutions of Livorno to participate with the Ecclesiastical Authority in the liturgical services during which the Solemn Worship and the Blessed Sacrament of Eucharist are being rendered honour;

- to represent the town of Livorno in the execution of the first civic vow of 1564, at the end of the serious epidemic plague, and of the second civic vow on the 27th of January 1742, at the end of the earthquake which struck the town.

All catholics of both sexes over 18 years old can join the Confraternity if introduced by two brothers and endorsement of their application by the Priest of their church.

The members can attend the Oratory, join the Sacred Services and have the duty to lead an exemplary life. They participate in the external annual celebrations such as the Eucharistic Processions (those for the Patron Saint) and the votive pilgrimages.

The Confraternity is administered by a Magistrate composed by the Governor and four Counsellors, and are elected every three years by the members with a free and secret vote. Every elective office is free.

The Major Chaplain is part of the Magistrate by right.

The Confraternity owns the property and runs the administration of the church dedicated to the Patron Saint, the Oratory of Saint Ranieri and Saint Giulia’s Museum.

The Confraternity also owns a small cemetery, located in the northern outskirt of Livorno, where dead brothers and their close relatives are buried.
